Load Tables help you account for the forces acting on a structure. This answers the question “What can it hold?”
Here are some terms to watch for when you read a Load Table:
SPAN:
The length of a structure between support points. Simple spans include only two supports.
UNIFORMLY DISTRIBUTED LOAD:
Also referred to as UDL. This is a load that is spread evenly along the entire length of a span. Some examples include cables, curtains, scenic drops, conduit, pipes.
CENTER POINT LOAD:
Single load placed at the center of the span.
THIRD POINT LOAD:
Two loads applied at 1/3 distance of the span.
QUARTER POINT LOAD:
Three loads spaced at 1/4 the distance of the span.
FIFTH POINT LOAD:
Four loads spaced at 1/5 the distance of the span.
